[18:03:41] <@Fats> Time flies, as runners lay low after destroying Faceless Avenger along with his offshore platform base at the Triads behest. The syndicate war in Vladivostok is as heated as it has ever been, the simmering war with Awakened Yakut seems to be flying towards open warfare, and on the rare days Nebokhod and Che meet in the Yakor v Glotke, the runner bar is noisy with funeral drinking and news of more lethal violence in the streets.
[18:03:57] <@Fats> One of these days, the runners learn the Triad that hired them was wiped out in its entirety by the Yaks, who left an exquisitely sculpted dragon-adorned ARO proclaiming the same fate will befall anyone who kills Yakuza hostages, as they did with the Loza-618 platform operation.
[18:04:24] <@Fats> Red Scorpion is nowhere to be found, having, apparently, moved to warmer climes in chase of her past offenders; Kit must be still in the city, but he doesn't keep up contact with his erstwhile comrades.
[18:04:39] <@Fats> It snows often in late November, and the wind from the ocean chills you to the bones. Ice floats in the Golden Horn bay, and as you make your way to Khasan Coast district, you can see red lights on the Red Navy vessels as they toot their goodbyes leaving the harbour.
[18:04:57] <@Fats> Che, Nebokhod, as you march by the familiar concrete steps down to the Yakor v Glotke bar, opening the unlabeled black steel door you’re greeted with the usual thick cigarette smoke, loud sympho-ork-trance, and runner noise. What is unusual, however, is that your table is already occupied: standing near its knife-cut murky white surface are two runners you’d place as new to the biz.
[18:05:20] <@Fats> As you walk up, Michalych intercepts you. The troll is wearing his usual telnyashka with its sleeves rolled up to show off the vast variety of tattoos he’d accumulated in his sailor and runner times, before he settled down as a bar owner-slash-fixer. He makes an excusing gesture towards your table: “Eh boys, with the street war as it is, I see your pack was affected, too – so when I heard from my colleagues they have runners new to the biz o
[18:05:22] <@Fats> r at least our beautiful city, I figured you could use the help. I mean, only two people? That’s good for some activities, but I don’t number shadowrunning among them” – he lets out a laughter that seems to emanate from deep within his belly.
[18:05:37] <@Fats> As you arrive at your table, Michalych gestures towards the newcomers: “Here you have Sharp and his elf buddy…” – as he speaks, the elf suddenly starts vomiting blood, and before you can quite place his features, stumbles off into the dark, towards the refreshment rooms. It appears he’s one of the runners hit by the recent epidemic of red mumps. The troll fixer continues non-chalantly, as an ARO with the menu floats up before you: “I f
[18:05:37] <@Fats> igure they’ll fit right in with what’s left of your team”.
[18:05:49] <@Fats> Without giving the runners any time to introduce themselves and exchange the usual pleasantries, he rambles on: “And, without further ado, I have a job for you. See this menu? See half the beer types are gone? That’s cause I brew the ones left myself; but the rest of them, I order from the Victory brewery, just up from here in Tavrichanka slums. And guess what, they haven’t made a delivery today, as Krug promised me! Sure I’d hold him acco
[18:05:49] <@Fats> untable, despite his claims of sending out the truck in time, but I need beer now, not when he brews the next batch. How about you boys go have a look see what fate befell the noble drink en route? I can’t offer much in the way of payment, but if you find it till tomorrow, I promise you free board till New Year! What say you?”
[18:06:46] <Che> Are tea sources safe?
[18:07:00] <Nebokhod> - Sounds interesting.
[18:07:27] <Sharp_> "Can't really say no to a first job, can I?"
[18:08:17] <@Fats> * Che, unless the Yakuts cut the Transsib again, cutting shipments from Krasnodar, you figure those are safe
[18:09:29] <Che> - Well, you can...
[18:09:54] <Sharp_> "It wasn't a serious question."
[18:09:55] <@Fats> - Right then, - the troll grunts as an ARO floats up in your fields of vision, - Here you have the brewery's street address, take it up from there, here, or anywhere, just get me my beer by morning.
[18:10:18] <Sharp_> "What route was the truck following?"
[18:11:32] <@Fats> - Hell if I know. I guess the shortest, but it was Savva's job dealing with the street corner gangs and the go-gangers and the cops, not mine.
[18:12:00] <Sharp_> "And Savva is..?"
[18:13:09] <@Fats> - The truck driver, of course.
[18:15:20] <Sharp_> *can I make a matrix search on any news of trouble between us and the brewery?
[18:15:28] <Nebokhod> - Do you have some personal item of his by any chance?
[18:16:37] <@Fats> The troll rubs one of his horns: "Hmmmmm no, not really, I don't believe so..."
[18:17:02] <@Fats> * Sharp_ sure, absolutely. Who are "us"?
[18:17:20] <Sharp_> * the bar we are currently in
[18:17:27] * Che checks matrix for relevant news from this area.
[18:17:31] <Sharp_> * ok, how do I roll?
[18:17:32] <Nebokhod> - Pity that. Could simplify matters somewhat.
[18:18:01] <Che> * Oh, slow typing, Sharp got it before me.
[18:19:08] <@Fats> * You can always teamwork. Anyway, I'd say it's a threshold 10 data search test (data search + browse) with a period of 1 minute
[18:19:13] <Sharp_> 12#sd Data Search
[18:19:14] <ur_dnd_bot> Sharp_: (pool 12) 4 hits
[18:19:25] <Sharp_> 12#sd Data Search
[18:19:25] <ur_dnd_bot> Sharp_: (pool 12) 4 hits
[18:19:27] <Sharp_> 12#sd Data Search
[18:19:28] <ur_dnd_bot> Sharp_: (pool 12) 7 hits
[18:20:05] <Sharp_> Sharp listens to the more experienced runners question the fixer, while he delves into the matrix to find what could have gone wrong
[18:20:15] <Che> * using pool or ratings?
[18:20:55] <Sharp_> * it's normally skill rating + modifiers + program
[18:21:01] <@Fats> * Uh, guys, remember we have extended rolls function in the bot? 12,10#sde - pool 12, threshold 10
[18:21:02] <ur_dnd_bot> Fats: (pool 12, threshold 10) 3 passes, 11 hits
[18:21:28] <Sharp_> * well see, I never knew that we have any functions in the bot!
[18:21:34] <Che> 7#sd Data Search
[18:21:34] <ur_dnd_bot> Che: (pool 7) 1 hit
[18:21:47] <@Fats> * and this is why we have introductory sessions, Sharp_ :3
[18:21:51] <Che> 7,10#sde Data Search
[18:21:52] <ur_dnd_bot> Che: (pool 7, threshold 10) 6 passes, 10 hits
[18:23:17] <Sharp_> * since we've missed the introduction:
[18:23:46] <@Fats> The more computer-savvy runners zone out, and in a while come to realize that in the ceaseless steam of gang conflicts and syndicate violence the Yakor can truly be called an eye of the hurricane in how little featured in the news it is.
[18:23:57] <Sharp_> Sharp is rough-looking 22 y.o. troll with short horns and blond hair. The most notable feature on his face are freemen-blue eyes surrounded by the scars from his past fights, though they are usually covered by shades
[18:24:36] <@Fats> It's mentioned maybe every once or twice in a week, tied to especially over-proportion runner-on-runner violence where someone had to be hospitalized; other than that, not much else.
[18:24:38] <Sharp_> "Huh. Apparently not much is going on around here. Makes me think this was a hired hit, but then again - on beer?"
[18:25:25] * Che is nondescript human-looking elf of a korean ethnicity in his 30s casually dressed in 2-piece business suit.
[18:26:59] <Che> - Well, looks like field trip is in order.
[18:27:11] <@Fats> - For all I know, this can be anyone. Some new shits moving into the city from overseas to establish their own order. Those Moscow UGB types stuffing their noses where they don't belong. Whatever.
[18:27:19] <Nebokhod> - Maybe there's new gang trying to prove themselves.
[18:27:49] <Che> - Or some runners got a new trdition...
[18:28:05] <Sharp_> 9#sd Knowledge: Underworld - have there been any new arrivals recently?
[18:28:05] <ur_dnd_bot> Sharp_: (pool 9) 5 hits
[18:28:22] <Che> * Recently arrived: 1 troll.
[18:28:35] <Sharp_> * Sharp is a local :P
[18:30:49] <Nebokhod> - Shall we check out the shortest route?
[18:32:08] <Che> - Where're hackers when you need them?
[18:32:22] <@Fats> Sharp_, there haven't been any new arrivals, but thanks to the syndicate war, the street-level gangs are fighting their own fight, and their areas of control have been shifting a lot lately both in Khasan coast and Tavrichanka.
[18:32:25] <Sharp_> "What do you need?"
[18:32:39] <Che> - Access to city's roadcam database.
[18:33:19] <Sharp_> "And a new car to fit your huge appetite?"
[18:33:39] <Sharp_> If I were to guess - how hard would it be to hack the city's roadcam database?
[18:33:46] <@Fats> * I guess a new car would be easier :3
[18:33:52] <Che> - Nah, I'm fine with current one.
[18:34:22] <Che> - But you'll probably ride in the back.
[18:34:33] <@Fats> * Well, the central host is, of course, top-grade protected, Sharp_, but the cams and drones themselves, as well as city quarter hubs, much less so
[18:34:41] <Sharp_> "I can hack you individual cameras no problem, but hacking the entire database would be more trouble than just going around busting heads until we find the missing truck"
[18:35:31] <Che> - And that's my point. Grab your gear we're going to them.
[18:35:50] <Sharp_> "I'm good to go - lead the way."
[18:36:16] * Che nods to Mihalych and leads the way.
[18:36:54] <Nebokhod> * how big is area covered by these hubs?
[18:37:04] <@Fats> The troll gives you lot a friendly wave goodbuy.
[18:37:37] <@Fats> * I'd say the city quarter hubs must cover a city quarter. Like, a dozen apartment buildings long and wide.
[18:37:56] <Nebokhod> * oh.
[18:38:22] * Nebokhod exits the bar.
[18:38:24] <Sharp_> * I was about to say "oh, it's just квартал" and then I realised I'm an idiot.
[18:38:26] <@Fats> Che, it's dank out, and the asphalt is black with water, but at least it's not raining or snowing yet.
[18:39:26] <@Fats> * btw, Che, what does your vehicle look like? While you decide where it is you're going... :3
[18:39:46] * Che checks his car for bugs and bombs then gets in and starts engine.
[18:40:48] * Che meditates a little browsing his gallery of car skins and decides to use one of the local telcom service company.
[18:41:34] <Che> * Or have you ment full description?
[18:42:02] <@Fats> * Well for the benefit of the runners who've never yet seen it :3 Also, where are you going, seriously now?
[18:43:24] * Che 's car is Toyota Coaster SUV, nice and comfy inside and rugged outside with some nice additions making it better suited for runner's line of work.
[18:44:23] <Che> * Something like that, I think: http://cdn.obsidianportal.com/assets/177017/Rover.jpg
[18:45:13] <Sharp_> Sharp generally runs around on high speed on his skimmer-feet, so he's carless. Thus he exhales and wiggles into the back seat of Che's car.
[18:45:40] * @Fats awaits input :3
[18:46:07] <Sharp_> * I believe we were going to check the shortest route between the brewery and the bar
[18:46:38] <Che> * Going to brewery first, than checking local cam and determining further directions.
[18:46:46] <Che> * then
[18:46:58] <Sharp_> * Good idea. We can follow the truck's route by cameras
[18:47:16] <Che> * Also launching drone for overview from above.
[18:48:58] <@Fats> * I still maintain it's better to discuss stuff IC :ь
[18:49:32] <@Fats> The slums of Tavrichanka are especially pathetic this time of the year: if during the vegetation season their poverty is at least partly concealed by the greenery, by late November, the trees turn into deformed ugly skeletal shapes that add nothing to the concrete and rust ambience of the district. The sky above you is the usual November uniform gray, and as you advance into Tavrichanka, it starts snowing, snowflakes clumping together in the air a
[18:49:32] <@Fats> nd melting the moment they touch the patchwork asphalt of the road. Ocean wind howls on the deserted streets, and only the lit up windows of the dilapidated apartment buildings hint the district is not yet altogether abandoned.
[18:49:32] <Che> * we're just pros who understand each other from one glance!
[18:50:50] <Che> * or, maybe that all Khod and his telepathy.
[18:51:05] <@Fats> Krug’s brewery is easy to find – it has a huge V in circle drawn in green on the gates, in accordance with the name. You take the shortest road, and encounter no complications – even the potholes on the road are rare, once every half a dozen meters or so. If you were to place the brewery compound, you’d say it used to be a military outpost, abandoned in the DRA times. Most of the buildings are nothing but empty husks, wind howling in their
[18:51:05] <@Fats> black windows looking into the night like eye sockets of a skull; but the canteen building appears to have lucked out to be overrun by beer-brewing squatters. As you drive near the building, strong smell of hops and malt overwhelms your olfactory senses.
[18:52:27] <Sharp_> "What a lovely place this is", Sharp said sarcastically
[18:52:43] * Che feeds the Optic-X feed to team.
[18:52:45] <Nebokhod> - High class.
[18:52:55] <Che> - At least it looks operational.
[18:53:21] <Sharp_> "Feel like talking to the owner?"
[18:53:32] <@Fats> Che, the streets along your road are just as deserted. This late, the traffic lights blink yellow, and scarcely a vehicle graces the road.
[18:56:30] <@Fats> The particleboard door creaks loudly as it lets you into what used to be the mess hall; now the tables are moved off to the sides, and most of the chairs are gone, except for several well-beaten ones clustered around a surviving oil heater. Two of those are graced with the company of the asses of mean-looking thugs, an ork and an ork-looking human, clad in gang leathers and with obvious bumps under their left armpits. In the dim light of the room,
[18:56:31] <@Fats> they appear to be playing something on their commlinks, ARO space fleets clashing, sparks and deathly rays flying in all directions over the heater. They give you an unfriendly look, but as of now, stop at that as you walk to the counter. Most of kitchen equipment has been removed to make way for what you place as beer casks, and beyond that, you see the holy relic of this place – an old army trailer-mounted microbrewery PP-51. Krug must’ve i
[18:56:32] <@Fats> nherited it along with the former canteen – at least with the trailers worn as they are now you don’t believe it’s anywhere near transportable. The vats themselves appear well-cared for, though. A little fat elf climbs down from the trailers and to the counter, wiping his hands on a stray piece of cloth – judging by his form, he must be Krug.
[18:56:39] <@Fats> - Greetings! Greetings! – he smiles, a far gold earring in his right ear gleaming as he throws the fabric off to the side, - To what I owe the rare pleasure?
[18:58:21] <Sharp_> Sharp stays quiet - socializing is not his forte
[18:58:27] <Nebokhod> - Hello.
[18:59:22] <@Fats> The elf maintains his smiley disposition.
[18:59:28] <Che> - Good day. Or whatever it is outside. Mihalych sent us.
[19:00:01] <@Fats> - Oh, that old lovable grumbler! Of course, of course. Has he yet received the shipment?
[19:00:18] <Che> - Not yet and that's the problem.
[19:01:05] <Che> - Shortage of beer don't makes his grumliness better.
[19:01:19] <Che> **b
[19:01:59] <@Fats> - I guess it can be a problem, when a paid shipment doesn't arrive, - the elf is still annoyingly upbeat, - But rest assured I've sent Savva on his way on schedule.
[19:02:33] <Che> - We're trying to find your courier. Do you have any leads? GPS markers, crystall balls or just and old sock of that Savva?
[19:02:43] <Sharp_> "Well he's quite behind the schedule now. Where is Savva? Did he call you back? Any report?"
[19:04:18] <Nebokhod> - Blood would be preferrable, actually.
[19:04:43] <@Fats> - I can't say he did, - the elf replies to the young troll, - But that's normal, he only works every other day! He owns the truck, so I don't bother with GPS markers, but... I guess I do have the mug Savva drinks from each morning before driving off...
[19:04:46] <Sharp_> * way not to sound like a blood mage :P
[19:05:14] <@Fats> - Blooood! - the elf looks at you wide-eyed, - What are you, planning some dark ritual?!
[19:06:00] * Che sighs.
[19:06:07] <Nebokhod> - No, are you proposing we do some sacrifice shit or what?
[19:06:59] <Nebokhod> - May we see this mug of yours?
[19:08:26] <@Fats> - I haven't heard of any rituals that involve shit sacrifices... Bbbbut I guess you might be more of a specialist, - the elf blubbers as he presents a ceramic mug at least a liter large from somewhere between the kegs in the kitchen.
[19:08:28] <Che> - Ah, and truck description.
[19:09:26] <@Fats> - Oh, it's a normal Zil truck, you know? The 138 model, standard blue, just a little wear here and there, almost good as new.
[19:09:32] <Nebokhod> - Heh, sacrificing shit, that's nice. Gotta tell this to the guys next time.
[19:11:10] <@Fats> The fat elf raises his arms in a helpless gesture: "What do I know about sacrifices, other than sacrificing my nervous system to brew the best beer in town?"
[19:12:06] * Nebokhod raises an eyebrow.
[19:13:38] <@Fats> - Do you think it easy? Rospotrebnadzor comes, takes a casket. The MVD comes, takes a casket. The Vory come, take a casket. The UGB comes, takes a barrel and almost takes the brewery itself, - the elf gives you his best impression of a pained sigh.
[19:14:26] <Nebokhod> - No rest for the wicked, right?
[19:15:14] <Nebokhod> - By the way, how do we recognise this Savva guy? Do you have a pic of him?
[19:17:24] <@Fats> - The only wicked you find here, sir, is wicked sick beer, - the elf proclaims as he makes a couple slight hand gestures, and an ARO floats up before him with a tall dark-haired human getting inside a Zil truck; the guy is dressed in a black bomber, a Spartak scarf, and appears to be a bit buzzed.
[19:17:50] <Sharp_> Sharp saves the picture.
[19:20:47] <Nebokhod> -Hm, maybe he chanced himself on the group of Koni.
[19:22:00] <Sharp_> "Where's the local road system node?"
[19:22:01] <Nebokhod> - Or a local equivalent.
[19:22:05] <Che> - Let's find that out. Thanks for info.
[19:23:03] <@Fats> - We mostly have Luch fans here. And 25 April fans, too - but I'd sooner place your friend here as one, - Krug nods at Che.
[19:23:30] <@Fats> - Always my pleasure, good folks. Hope to see you as patrons one day!
[19:24:33] * Che nods and walks back to car.
[19:24:35] <Sharp_> * Any answer to my question?
[19:25:25] <Nebokhod> - Have a good day.
[19:25:37] * Nebokhod follows Che.
[19:26:33] <@Fats> * Nope - the elf appeared too consumed with the football teams. Otherwise, you'll simply have to find it, say, with Detect Hidden Node.
[19:27:17] * Che gives to Sharp mapped out by drone local power lines and radio signal sources.
[19:27:27] <@Fats> After the fragrant warmth of the brewery, November night is especially chilly, so it's nice to be back in the SUV.
[19:28:10] <@Fats> * it's an Electronic
[19:28:11] <@Fats> Warfare + Scan (15+, 1 Combat Turn) Extended Test; say, with +2 on your rolls for data from Che's drone
[19:28:22] <Sharp_> 14,15#sde Detect Hidden Node

[19:30:14] <Sharp_> Leaning on Che's car, Sharp messes around with the node scanner for a few seconds
[19:30:38] * Nebokhod tries to rest himself more comfortably in his seat.
[19:30:40] <@Fats> Less than half a minute later, Sharp is reasonably sure one of the multi-coloured marks dancing before him in the radio-frequency scanner profiles to a standard Vladivostok quarter traffic control node.
[19:31:10] <Nebokhod> - Please see that i do not die.
[19:31:23] <Sharp_> "Found the node, starting the hack.
[19:31:24] <Nebokhod> - Or splatter the upholstery with my blood.

[19:33:37] * Che surveys neighbourhood via drone.
[19:34:46] <@Fats> The node that floats up before you in AR is indeed your garden-variety traffic control host EVO won a contract to install across the city. Just as any EVO host, it has a flashy sculpting, all multi-coloured facets blending together to form what a mentally-special interface designer considered to be perfect unity. You'd place this node as a standard corporate-level.
[19:34:55] <@Fats> * System 4 Firewall 4.
[19:35:14] <Nebokhod> * the spirit looks like Kabosu the shiba-inu.
[19:35:35] <@Fats> Che, other than a lone harpy flying past, snow heavy on its wings, nothing much is happening in your Optic-X's field of vision
[19:36:08] <Nebokhod> * i order the spirit to search for the Savva.
[19:36:32] <Sharp_> Sharp switches to hot-sim and starts Hack on the Fly
[19:36:37] <Nebokhod> - FUCK. My head.
[19:37:04] <Che> - Mind your blood.

[19:37:23] <@Fats> * uh-huh
[19:37:32] * Nebokhod starts looking around for the medkil.
[19:37:48] <Sharp_> * Fats, roll Analyse + Firewall extended threshold 6
[19:38:06] <@Fats> Nebokhod, the spirit barks silently as it runs off in concentric circles, sniffing for astral traces only it can see.

[19:38:36] <@Fats> * Sharp_, I know what to roll for a hack on the fly; I roll in secret. Proceed with your extended test.
[19:38:53] * Nebokhod finally finds the medkit.
[19:39:00] <Nebokhod> - Ah, there it is.
[19:39:07] <Nebokhod> 14#sd
[19:39:08] <ur_dnd_bot> Nebokhod: (pool 14) 3 hits
[19:39:18] <Sharp_> * done. Exploit has a Mute option, so alarm would be delayed for a full combat turn if it happens
[19:39:47] <@Fats> * well, it doesn't happen, from what you can see
[19:40:30] <Sharp_> Sharp's icon, a chinese man reminiscent of Bak Mei, makes a few precise finger pokes into the defenses of the host, and slips in
[19:41:22] <Sharp_> Once inside, Sharp looks for a data record with Savva's truck in it.
[19:41:29] <@Fats> Sharp_, as you dive into the shared hallucination of VR, the ghostly node you see in AR before you becomes as solid and colourful as anything you've seen in RL and more so. As you enter, you find its interior sculpted the same as exterior: multi-coloured unity in diversity. Apparently, zones with different functionality are colour-coded.
[19:41:47] <Nebokhod> * hm, i am at 1S apparently.
[19:42:19] <Sharp_> * guide me, Fats-sensei!
[19:42:36] <@Fats> * Nebokhod, roll the Search test for your spirit, and don't forget about the -2
[19:43:29] <@Fats> Sharp_, the node has a huge collection of data, finding a single Zil inside it could be tricky. Roll a Data Search test, threshold 6, period 1 Complex Action.
[19:44:00] <Nebokhod> 8,5#sde
[19:44:00] <ur_dnd_bot> Nebokhod: (pool 8, threshold 5) 2 passes, 6 hits
[19:44:13] <Sharp_> 14,6#sde
[19:44:13] <ur_dnd_bot> Sharp_: (pool 14, threshold 6) 2 passes, 11 hits
[19:45:08] <Sharp_> Sharp's flowing white bear rises up like a compass needle, unerringly guiding him towards the goal
[19:45:12] <@Fats> * Nebokhod, so your spirit will find him in 20 minutes. Let's see if Sharp does faster :3
[19:46:06] <Sharp_> * That's assuming Savva and his truck are in the same place :D
[19:46:21] <@Fats> Sharp_, as you explore the host, a semi-transparent wall of user scanning sweeps through it; but your Stealth holds against the node's Analyze.
[19:46:38] <@Fats> * Yes, naturally.
[19:47:37] <Sharp_> As he's hit with Analyze, Sharp briefly laments his hastiness in not Disarming the damn thing. Hopefully it won't bite him in the ass right now.
[19:48:00] <@Fats> Sharp_, you find the records with the Zil in question, in a few shots, its license plate can be seen, it's 748STK
[19:48:43] <Sharp_> Sharp quickly records on the map cameras where Zil was spotted along with time stamps, deletes the records of his visit, and logs out.
[19:48:48] <@Fats> * Disarm works of Data Bombs; Analyze is simply a program running in the node which you as an admin can shut down at any moment
[19:50:12] <Sharp_> * derp on admin. Defuse is for Data Bombs. Disarm is a program that blocks another user's/node's program from being used against you
[19:51:13] <Sharp_> *Wait a moment on the last IC thing
[19:51:50] <Sharp_> In addition to that, Sharp uses his hacked admin rights to make a fresh account for himself in case he needs to use this node in the future.
[19:52:25] <@Fats> * anyway, if I recall, deleting the access log is a Hacking+Edit (3) test, or optionally Computer+Edit (3) if you're an admin
[19:52:40] <Sharp_> * same thing for me really
[19:53:16] <Sharp_> 16#sd log edit
[19:53:17] <ur_dnd_bot> Sharp_: (pool 16) 6 hits
[19:53:22] <@Fats> * well, still. Also, depending on which type of account you create, you need to roll a test for that as per Unwired 97
[19:54:06] <Sharp_> 16#sd admin account creation
[19:54:06] <ur_dnd_bot> Sharp_: (pool 16) 5 hits
[19:54:41] <@Fats> * You succeed, describe IC. Will you hide it?
[19:54:48] <Sharp_> 15,4#sde hide account
[19:54:48] <ur_dnd_bot> Sharp_: (pool 15, threshold 4) 1 pass, 5 hits
[19:56:04] <@Fats> * So in ten minutes you have a hidden admin account in that node, good job.
[19:58:05] <Sharp_> With map in hand, Sharp finds his way to the node's control core guided by his beard. There, he overrides EVO's styles with his personal preference of old-school programmer den, writes up a new admin user dossier in the system and burries it deep within the node's code. He then lounges in the virtual chair for ten minutes as the node compiles new piece of code he added, and logs off.
[20:00:01] <@Fats> As you focus your eyes back into reality some 11 minutes after your VR dive, Sharp_, you're still in the SUV with the runners you met at that shady bar with that suspicious troll. As you look through the cam videos you've downloaded, you realize the truck is not going anywhere near the shortest route to the Yakor.
[20:00:44] <Sharp_> "Looks like Savva decided to take a detour."
[20:00:57] <Sharp_> Sharp broadcasts the results of his investigation to the teammates
[20:01:18] <Sharp_> "Nebokhod, any luck on your side?"
[20:01:37] <Sharp_> "I suggest we start following Savva's trail and see where it leads us."
[20:01:46] <Nebokhod> - I'm still waiting for the spirit to return.
[20:01:54] <@Fats> Lucas, your spirit has the trace, from what you feel, but it's yet to return.
[20:01:58] <Che> - Yeah.
[20:02:06] <Nebokhod> - Yeah, no point in sitting around.
[20:02:12] <Che> - Let's see where your trail will lead us.
[20:02:20] <Sharp_> "We can start driving, I'm sure your spirit will find you"
[20:03:30] * Che starts engine.
[20:04:38] <@Fats> Che, as you drive along the road Che mapped for you, you leave the roads well-traveled, and instead struggle through the side streets of Tavrichanka. For all you see, the road was bombarded during the Crimea War, and never repaired after that, which limits your speed all but to a crawl.
[20:05:23] <Che> * muh offroad suspension!
[20:06:19] * Che scouts ahead with a drone.
[20:08:32] <@Fats> As you near the last marker on the map, you see a lone cam mounted on a street light, painted and over-painted with graffiti, its lens apparently recently replaced, judging by the fact it's not spray-painted. You're on a narrow side-street; on your right is a concrete fence of some warehouse, most likely long since abandoned, on your left, if you were to guess, a former taxi park, its sliding gate locked shut, but the guard post lit up from the in
[20:08:32] <@Fats> side. Just as you drive past, Lucas's spirit materializes inside the SUV to bark at the park and claw your left window.
[20:09:00] <Nebokhod> * afk for a bit
[20:09:06] <@Fats> From your drone you see the insides of the taxi park; one of the buildings has lights on.
[20:09:27] <@Fats> * roll a perception(visual) test, anyone who's watching the drone feed
[20:09:47] <Sharp_> 9#sd Perception
[20:09:48] <ur_dnd_bot> Sharp_: (pool 9) 5 hits
[20:11:22] <@Fats> Under the rusted roof of what used to be a garage for the taxis, you notice the characteristic deep-blue tent of Savva's truck.
[20:11:25] <Che> *+3 from visual enh on cameras.
[20:11:35] <@Fats> * still that's quite enough
[20:11:51] <Sharp_> "There's our truck"
[20:11:58] <Sharp_> "I hope beer's still inside"
[20:12:27] <Che> - Any news from your spirit, Khod?
[20:14:16] <@Fats> Che, the shibu-inu floating at your left elbow gives you a puzzled look
[20:14:37] <Che> * I mean, can it give details, not just barking.
[20:15:06] * Che returns puzzled look to chiba-inu.
[20:15:22] <Che> - Stop clawing my car, dogger.
[20:15:23] * Nebokhod asks the spirit to elaborate
[20:15:52] <@Fats> The dog's head rotates clockwise, slowly, a good 60 degrees, as it watches you, Che.
[20:17:10] <@Fats> Nebokhod, the dog barks its report to you, and you understand Savva's inside the building of the taxi park and unconscious.
[20:17:22] <Sharp_> "Who's a good boy? Yes you are!"
[20:17:54] <Nebokhod> - Savva's inside the the taxi park and unconscious.
[20:18:19] * Che sighs.
[20:18:28] <Sharp_> http://www.threepanelsoul.com/comics/2014-08-19-336.png
[20:18:48] <Sharp_> "I see two possibilities:"
[20:18:49] <@Fats> The dog barks happily and licks Sharp's face, having floated between the front seats.
[20:19:10] <Sharp_> "One, Savav's a traitor and is now drunk among his new comrades."
[20:19:21] <Sharp_> "Two, Savva was captured and knocked out."
[20:19:27] <Sharp_> "First one seems more probable"
[20:20:16] * Nebokhod asks the spirit if there are other people in the building.
[20:20:21] * Che uncospicipusly parks car after next street intersection.
[20:20:48] <Sharp_> Sharp makes looks at the building through the matrix. Any active commlinks?
[20:21:10] * Che prepares and launches his Fly-Spy.
[20:21:20] <@Fats> Nebokhod, the dog barks six times.
[20:21:32] <@Fats> * Sharp_, a Detect Hidden Nodes, if you will.
[20:21:50] <Sharp_> Sharp rubs the spirit between its ears with his magic hands
[20:21:54] <Nebokhod> - Interestingly enough there's 6 more people inside.
[20:22:00] <Che> * There is radio scanner on Optic-X so it can help, I guess.
[20:22:15] <Sharp_> 14,15#sde Detect Hidden Nodes
[20:22:16] <ur_dnd_bot> Sharp_: (pool 14, threshold 15) 4 passes, 16 hits
[20:22:55] <@Fats> * in half a minute
[20:23:10] <@Fats> Che, what do you do with the drone in this time?
[20:24:36] * Che orders Optic-X to maintain overwatch position and map all details of taxi park: heat signatures, power lines, radio and audio signal sources, movement.
[20:25:03] <Che> * and assumes direct control of the Fly-Spy.
[20:25:50] <Che> - I'm flying in, if there are no better ideas.
[20:28:25] <@Fats> Che, as you fly over the gate and inside the taxi park, you get a better picture of what's inside. The complex appears to have been abandoned and then taken over by a street gang, judging by every inch of its surfaces being covered by Spartak symbols, nametags and primitive art depicting the gang member's martial prowess in battle with their ilk.
[20:28:33] <@Fats> Sharp, from your best triangulation attempts, there's a single civilian-grade commlink somewhere around the guard post, six more of these and a home control node in the taxi park building, and a truck dogbrain in the garage.
[20:29:09] <@Fats> The garage is not much of a building, rather just a well-rusted roof over where the taxis used to be parked
[20:29:42] <Sharp_> "Six guys, no drones. Seems simple enough - we go in and politely ask to return our beer."
[20:30:10] <Sharp_> "Sorry, seven guys. One in the guard booth."
[20:30:37] <Nebokhod> - Yeah, give us the beer or else.
[20:31:06] <Che> - I'm not sure they'll be a talkative lot.
[20:31:42] <Sharp_> "That's really their problem. There's four of us and only seven of them."
[20:32:45] <Sharp_> "What do you want to do with the guard?"
[20:33:12] <Che> - Dunno, shock him.
[20:34:04] <Che> - Or gel him. Decisions, decisions...
[20:34:42] <Sharp_> Sharp gets out of the car, sneaks up to the guard post and carefully looks inside.
[20:35:21] <@Fats> * Agility+Infiltration(Urban) if you will
[20:35:37] <Sharp_> 12#sd
[20:35:37] <ur_dnd_bot> Sharp_: (pool 12) 3 hits
[20:35:39] <Che> = Try not to die out there.
[20:35:56] <Sharp_> "What, you are sitting this one out?"
[20:36:01] * Che prepares his guns.
[20:37:04] <Che> = Well, it's not like you're in a deer need of help right now. And you'll probably be more thankful to have evac on a standby.
[20:38:38] <@Fats> Sharp, as you look through a web of cracks in the tiny window of the guard post, you see a well-built ork in a black bomber and a Spartak scarf sitting behind a table. He has his legs up the table, and an empty mug on it. Judging by his absent expression, he's either dozing off or watching something on his cybereyes.
[20:38:51] <Nebokhod> = What is your plan?
[20:39:29] <Sharp_> "The unifying sign I'm noticing so far are the Spartak symbols. Are we busting a football gang here?"
[20:40:14] <Nebokhod> = Could be.
[20:40:16] <Sharp_> "I can knock him out or I can subdue him for interrogation. What would you like?"
[20:41:04] <Che> = Subdue can prove useful, but it's not that critical to our mission, I think.
[20:41:13] <Nebokhod> = I vote we knock them all out first and then interrogate.
[20:41:28] <Che> = Works for me.
[20:41:35] <@Fats> * Sharp_, we have markup for messages. The - messages are spoken aloud, = are over comms (usually subvoc)
[20:41:44] <Sharp_> * k
[20:41:50] <@Fats> * and [], was it, for commtext?
[20:42:16] <Sharp_> = Knock him out. Gotcha.
[20:42:41] <Che> *~
[20:42:43] <Sharp_> Sharp circles the booth to the entrance and checks if it's open.
[20:42:55] <Sharp_> With the intent to get in and punch the ork.
[20:45:52] <@Fats> As you kick in the door, the ork jumps in place, struggling to come to grips with reality as it is, not whatever sweet dream he was watching.
[20:46:01] <@Fats> * Initiative Test, please
[20:46:13] <Sharp_> * I didn't say "kick in the door" :D
[20:46:25] <@Fats> * D:>
[20:46:40] <@Fats> * bbbbut muh dynamic entry
[20:47:19] <Sharp_> * That's for later. Right now - stealth!
[20:48:27] <@Fats> The door appears unlocked as you pull, then push it slightly.
[20:48:29] <Che> * First comes in Mr.Grenade.
[20:48:51] <Sharp_> * Nah, grenade is part of the "dynamic entry"
[20:49:07] <Sharp_> Sharp will quietly open the door and kick the ork in the head.
[20:49:41] <Nebokhod> * inb4 how dare you to presume grenade's gender?!1111
[20:50:19] <@Fats> As you quietly open the door, the ork jumps in place, struggling to come to grips with reality as it is, not whatever sweet dream he was watching.

[20:53:03] <Sharp_> *That's 12S + 6 for 18S resisted by body
[20:54:06] <Sharp_> = "He, uh, might have a slight concussion."
[20:54:51] * Tanarath (~Tanarath@c-24-7-128-105.hsd1.ca.comcast.net) has joined #TeamA
[20:55:01] <Che> = He'll be allright.
[20:55:13] <@Fats> Your foot hits the guy on the temple with a sideways downward motion, knocking him out cold and sending him crushing into the the wall with the other temple, then back to the table, then down to the floor, each hit marked with a hollow echoing sound.
[20:55:57] <Sharp_> = "Guard down. Let's move on to the building?"
[20:56:08] <@Fats> He appears to be out cold for good, judging by him laying motionless, blood steaming from nose and mouth
[20:56:39] <Che> = Can you open the gate?
[20:56:46] <Sharp_> = "Sure."
[20:56:50] <Sharp_> Sharp opens the gate.
[20:56:51] * Nebokhod moves out to the guard post.
[20:57:29] * Che moves car to the front of the complex and prepares to storm in on a first sign of troubles.
[20:58:48] <@Fats> The gate slides off to the side, creaking loudly as it goes. Che, you can hear loud cheers coming from the building every once in a while.
[20:59:10] <Sharp_> = "I think that's our beer going down the drain. Let's hustle."
[20:59:46] <@Fats> Nebokhod, the tiny guard post is silent, the ork still laying as motionless as he was.
[20:59:51] <Sharp_> * How tall is the building? On which floor are the commlinks I detected earlier?
[21:00:20] <@Fats> * it's one floor, so non-issue, really
[21:00:25] * Nebokhod orders the spirit to materialise and joins Sharp.
[21:00:26] <Sharp_> "Nebokhod, if you can patch up the poor bastard before he bleeds out - that would be nice."
[21:00:39] <@Fats> * also, node triangulation is out to what, 50 meters, was it?
[21:00:59] * Nebokhod whips out medkit
[21:01:24] <@Fats> * medkit rating?
[21:01:27] <Sharp_> * I'm not really Tracing the nodes, just using matrix perception in the detection radius, where they presumably roughly correspond to physical location

[21:03:54] <@Fats> Nebokhod, as you hook the ork up to the medkit, the expert system comes alive: broken right temple and facial bone, compound concussion, internal hemorrhages - the guy is half-dead, really. The medkit buzzes and whizzes as it pumps medicine into his bloodstream.
[21:04:48] <Nebokhod> = What did you hit the guard with?
[21:05:37] <Sharp_> = "Just lightly tapped him. He must have been weak from the cold."
[21:06:31] <Nebokhod> = Next time try to use the bat or something, less chances of killing the guy.
[21:06:55] <Sharp_> = "You said no to subduing."
[21:07:43] <Sharp_> Sharp moves on to take position by the entrance and waits for his companions
[21:08:31] * Nebokhod leaves the medkit to work it's magic on the orc and come to the entrance.
[21:09:34] <@Fats> * Che?
[21:10:03] * Che stays on evac duty.
[21:10:30] <Che> * Or you want me to join you inside?
[21:10:35] <@Fats> Sharp_, Nebokhod, you can make out some of the words from the noise coming from the building: "To Swen, may he rest in peace", "Spartak, Russia, Victory!" and samesuch.
[21:10:41] <Che> * Or you want me to storm inside in a car?
[21:11:15] <Sharp_> * You can storm with us outside the car :P
[21:12:05] <Che> * Let's give them alittle bit fairer fight.
[21:12:39] <Sharp_> Sharp signals Nebokhod to command the assault and gets ready to break the door on his mark
[21:13:35] <Nebokhod> = Break in.

[21:22:57] <@Fats> Sharp, as you kick in the door, you see an improvised meeting room, with a large table in the middle and several armchairs in the corners. Your friend Savva is taking a buzz in an armchair; four gangers sit at the table: a fat ork, a crooked troll, a thin man with unpleasant thin lips, and a buffed man. An elf is toasting from another armchair as you roll in.
[21:23:42] <@Fats> Sharp, your go

[21:41:48] <Nebokhod> * can i cover all of them with 4 meter radius?
[21:43:42] <@Fats> * Nope; either all the gangers and Sharp or Sharp, Samvel the troll, and the elf.

[21:46:45] <Nebokhod> 14#sd F5 orgy spell
[21:46:47] <ur_dnd_bot> Nebokhod: (pool 14) 5 hits
[21:47:10] <Nebokhod> * do we round up or down in drain?
[21:47:27] <Sharp_> * I think it's always up everywhere?
[21:48:48] <Nebokhod> 12#sd vs 2
[21:48:48] <ur_dnd_bot> Nebokhod: (pool 12) 6 hits
[21:48:59] <@Fats> * anything "bad" rounds up, anything "good" down :3
[21:50:28] <@Fats> * describe the effect for Sharp :3 Also, everyone except the elf is down.
[21:50:39] <Sharp_> * Oh god, you are using that optional rule?
[21:51:48] <Sharp_> * I'll leave the pleasure of describing the "effect" to the caster.
[21:52:41] <Nebokhod> The wave of pleasure hits you like a truck. Truck full of luscious troll babes, hurg and vanilla-flavoured lube.
[21:53:27] <@Fats> * Sharp_, well, in a pitch, yes. That's better than trying to remember which tests round up and which not
[21:53:28] <Nebokhod> *hurlg
[21:53:52] <Sharp_> * I meant the optional rule where Orgasm knocks you out when it's over your willpower
[21:55:15] <@Fats> * Why not? it's gangers. I try to make combat as flashy as possible, and that includes applying optional effects or, say, body damage other than "hurr durr he's down 6HP"
[21:56:27] <@Fats> Unable to resist the overwhelming pleasure, the gangers around the adept collapse to the ground in convulsions, leaving only the elf standing against the two runners and a spirit. The elf drops his stun baton and raises his hands, deliberately slowly.
[21:56:27] <Sharp_> = "Mage, you do it one more time and I'm adding you to the Interpol's rapist database."
[21:57:06] <Che> = And that's why I prefer to stay in car.
[21:57:27] <Che> = But, good work, kiddo.
[21:58:02] <Nebokhod> = What, you didn't like it? I'd totally give you your money back, but you hadn't given me any.
[21:58:11] <Sharp_> Sharp gives a few kicks to the downed gangers to let the mage drop his spell
[21:58:24] <@Fats> The elf eyes you with hostile intent, but says nothing, keeping his hands where the runners can see them.
[21:58:26] <Sharp_> "We are here for the beer. You've stolen from the very wrong bar."
[21:58:38] * Nebokhod drops the spell.
[21:59:14] <@Fats> - Bar? We don't know no bar, - the elf answers through his teeth.
[21:59:52] <Nebokhod> - That's is your problem, not ours. Question is - how do you intend to make up for it?
[22:00:21] <Sharp_> "I don't really care if you know it or not. But this is a warning that Krug's brewery is protected and the next transgression would be punished much more severely. Now, where's the beer and Savva?"
[22:02:40] <@Fats> The elf points at Savva: the man seems happily drunk on the beer he was supposed to ferry around, and sleeping in an armchair in the corner of the room
[22:02:56] <Sharp_> "And beer?"
[22:03:27] <Che> = I wonder will Mihalych accept beer in them...
[22:03:48] <@Fats> - You can take what's left in the truck, it's ten casks out of twelve; we haven't watered it down this time around.
[22:03:52] <Sharp_> = "If he does, I'm never drinking in his bar ever again"
[22:04:50] <@Fats> - The rest is gone for good.
[22:05:16] <Nebokhod> - So. And how long do you water the beer?
[22:05:32] <Sharp_> = "I say we leave Savva with his new friends and take his truck."
[22:05:44] <Sharp_> = "Should be punishment enough."
[22:05:57] <Che> = Eh, bound him and toss with Savva into truck. Let Mihalych hear the stories and take disciplinary actions.
[22:06:19] <Sharp_> Sharp throws Savva over the shoulder.
[22:07:03] <Sharp_> "Pleasure doing business. I'd get your buddy outside to a hospital if I were you, he's a bit unwell. Ciao."
[22:07:08] <@Fats> Sila shrugs: "For as long as Savva has been a driver. I mean, a bit from that cask and a bit from this, unless it's a grave matter like now, no one will notice and we are happy as well".
[22:07:27] <Che> * take the elf too, I mean.
[22:07:54] <guns_as_usual> * I wonder why this time they were stupid enough to take this long
[22:08:08] <Sharp_> = "Why? What's Mihalych going to do, fine them?"
[22:08:14] <Che> * because reasons and plothooks!
[22:08:21] <guns_as_usual> * could've been doing this gig for a while more
[22:08:52] <Sharp_> = "Well then, Nebokhod, feel free to knock him out. My methods are a bit heavy-handed."
[22:08:57] <Che> = Well, I guess he can find them an application or two.
[22:09:00] <@Fats> * well, he explained just now, no? And you heard toasts before: they're burying one of their own
[22:09:28] <Nebokhod> * takes photos of all of the gangers and sends them to Krug with a short description.
[22:09:31] <guns_as_usual> * and funniest thing that they managed to water it down enough that they got their profit, but Mychalych didn't feel it sold bad enough to look into it
[22:09:57] * Nebokhod takes photos of all of the gangers and sends them to Krug with a short description.
[22:10:36] <Sharp_> "You owe our boss an apology. Nothing too drastic, you may even get a gig protecting the trucks from now on, but you'll have to come with us." Sharp's tone clearly indicates that he won't take "no" for an answer.
[22:10:44] <Nebokhod> - Yeah, can't guarantee that either, we can always finf them later.
[22:11:20] * Che meanwhile paints a new skin for his car: "special beer delivery".
[22:11:49] <@Fats> - I guess I do not have the luxurious option of refusing, eh? Have it your way, - the elf shrugs and marches out of the meeting hall full of still-moaning bodies.
[22:11:57] <Sharp_> ="Che, start Savva's truck"
[22:12:20] <Che> = I'm not sure I can drive it remotely.
[22:12:44] <Sharp_> * Aren't you a rigger? Don't you have Command? Does the truck not have Pilot?
[22:12:46] <Nebokhod> = You can send the command to the dogbrain, no?
[22:12:52] * Che remotely checks Savva's truck.
[22:13:28] <@Fats> With the access keys from Savva's commlink, the truck provides Che full access promptly.
[22:14:42] * Che executes full system check and then carefully guides it out of garage where he order it to just follow him.
[22:15:30] <@Fats> And yes, of course it does have a dogbrain, it's just the thing is not particularly advanced (same as ever on Zil trucks) and good for transporting beer over uneven roads.
[22:15:37] <Che> = Where is fun in that?
[22:16:07] <@Fats> The dogbrain complies without issue, the truck belching black smoke and stench of burned machine oil.
[22:17:26] <Che> = Get in and let's get out.
[22:19:03] <@Fats> The elf stands with his back turned to you, you can see the hair on his nape standing upright.
[22:19:51] <Sharp_> Sharp slaps plastic restraints on his hands and pushes him into the car. He throws Savva into the trunk and sits next to the elf.
[22:20:00] <Sharp_> ="Check his astral signature"
[22:20:18] <Nebokhod> = Whose?
[22:20:30] <Sharp_> ="Elf's, duh"
[22:20:46] <Nebokhod> = Ah. Right. Good idea.
[22:20:59] <Nebokhod> 7#sd
[22:20:59] <ur_dnd_bot> Nebokhod: (pool 7) 1 hit
[22:22:53] <Nebokhod> * thas was assensing.
[22:23:01] <@Fats> As you switch your perception to astral, Lucas, you see as if through a mirror, darkly, the aura of the metahuman next to you: undoubtedly, it's a male elf, he is unawakened, sad, angry and most of all afraid.
[22:23:43] <Nebokhod> = Seems normal.
[22:24:41] <Sharp_> "Relax a bit. We are neither Vory nor Yakuza, so you'll probably keep all your limbs. But our society is based on respect, and you were stealing our booze and got too careless. So that'll have to be fixed."
[22:25:49] <@Fats> - I'll hazard a guess it's not for you to decide what I keep, - the elf replies grimly.
[22:26:39] <Nebokhod> - Wanna have your balls bitten by the magic dog?
[22:27:49] <Sharp_> "You are not helping."
[22:28:06] <Sharp_> * guys, I'll have to go in 10 minutes or so
[22:28:07] <@Fats> The elf fires up, obviously considering some kind of ganger come back like "And when they fucked you, what did they write on your ass?", but considering the situation, he simply grimly replies: "No, think I'll pass".
[22:28:17] <@Fats> * let's wrap up, yeh
[22:28:21] <Nebokhod> - That;s the spirit.
[22:30:15] <@Fats> Your motorcade drives off, the truck wagging behind the SUV; by midnight, you're back at your table at the Yakor, having passed the beer and its hapless thieves to Michalych. None of you would call the troll happy to learn he's had his beer watered for ages; he grabs Sila by the collar and hauls him off to employee-only rooms for "a talk" - but not before swearing he'll keep his promise and pour you the hard-earned drink free till the next year.
