FIVE 28
[18:18:32] <@Fats> The troupe is outside the Golden Pheasant, in Artyom district. It's early evening, you have some four hours before your target, a certain young samurai named Reaper, is to arrive on Khasan Coast, in a bar named simply Wonderland. Your Johnson has tasked you with pretending to be local talent in search of employment, to play bodyguard for Reaper in his run.
[18:18:32] <@Fats> You've just walked out out of the Chinese restaurant/sauna/brothel, and the humid frost of unusually harsh Vladivostok winter hits you hard as you walk towards your vehicles.
[18:18:42] * Heckfy[sleep] is now known as Nebokhod
[18:19:06] <@Fats> * It's about an hour drive from where you are to Wonderland; what are you planning to do?
[18:20:20] <Nebokhod> - So, any idea how we are getting fucked over exactly?
[18:20:48] <Won> - No, but I plan on figuring it out.
[18:21:02] <Che> - Well, we need to babysit some young hothead with not-so-supressed deathwish...
[18:22:25] <Nebokhod> - That is taking over our jerbs!
[18:22:41] <@Fats> * Won, are you rolling the data search rolls yourself? Or delegating to an AI? Also, a link to your current charsheet would be nice.
[18:24:02] <Won> * I didn't make any changes to my character sheet since last session.
[18:24:54] <@Fats> * So https://i.imgur.com/sQxWdTR.png is current?
[18:25:34] <Won> * Yes. Knowledge skills are in a seperate image at the moment because of Chummer bullshit. I need to transfer to something more linux-friendly.
[18:26:42] <Won> * And yeah, I'll do the data search rolls myself. Would it be cheezy to use the Contacts?
[18:26:54] <Won> * Contacts/AI
[18:28:16] <@Fats> * A bit, but not any more cheesy than having a bunch of AIs as contacts to begin with :ь
[18:29:24] <@Fats> * It's a Data Search + Browse extended test, the rules are on page 230. Generally speaking, the threshold for personal info is 12, with the entire Matrix to search
[18:34:31] * Che casually checks his car for nasty surprises.
[18:34:51] <@Fats> * A Perception test, if you're doing it visually
[18:35:38] <Che> 9#sd
[18:35:38] <ur_dnd_bot> Che: (pool 9) 5 hits
[18:36:13] <Won> 9#sd
[18:36:14] <ur_dnd_bot> Won: (pool 9) 6 hits
[18:36:26] <Won> * Sorry. Had to flip around the book to learn a few things.
[18:36:38] * Nebokhod does his best impression of the most expensive parrot.
[18:36:53] <Nebokhod> * the bot seems to like you both today.
[18:37:26] <@Fats> Che, as far as you can see, there's nothing on, in, or around the car that you haven't put there yourself
[18:38:10] <@Fats> * Won, is that a Data Search roll? I believe the bot can roll extended tests for you. What was it, hmm
[18:38:16] <@Fats> 9,12#sde
[18:38:16] <ur_dnd_bot> Fats: (pool 9, threshold 12) 3 passes, 12 hits
[18:38:24] <Won> oh, cool
[18:38:28] <Won> 9,12#sde
[18:38:28] <ur_dnd_bot> Won: (pool 9, threshold 12) 4 passes, 13 hits
[18:38:50] <@Fats> * Now tell me, what was it you were searching for? Personal details for your mark?
[18:38:55] * Won doesn't check his car, he trusts the dude who lives in it to keep vagrants out.
[18:40:01] * Che kicks one of the wheels a few times and gets back to zoned out Won with his expensive parrot.
[18:40:19] <Che> - How it's going?
[18:42:23] <Won> * Yeah. Who is this person, what can we tempt him with. Who's his lineage. Whats his value to the johnson.
[18:43:30] * Won mistakes the parrot for a baby dragon
[18:43:38] <Won> - I thought those were myths.
[18:47:04] <Nebokhod> * what?
[18:47:07] <@Fats> A cursory search across the Matrix does not reveal too much. In a bit of digging, you pinpoint a SIN database in Beijing that issued his current SIN. Perhaps you can glean more info there, if you break in - the host, sculpted as a modest pagoda in the Forbidden Palace-themed matrix of the Chinese statelet, doesn't appear all that tough.
[18:48:57] <Won> * I think I totally misread the thing about zoned out Won and expensive parrot
[18:49:30] <Won> * Any chance I recognize that aesthetic or who would prefer it?
[18:50:11] <@Fats> * As did I. Apparently, Nebokhod was referencing a joke about a guy buying parrots on a market: one speaks Russian freely, the other Russian and English, and the third one is the most expensive: the seller doesn't know what he can do, but the first two call him "boss"
[18:52:29] <@Fats> Won, the sculpting appears quite standard for the city-state Li Tianzi built in and around Beijing after China fell apart. This implies that it's either his birth SIN, issued when he was born and full of actual juicy info; or perhaps someone with contacts in that state procured a fake SIN for him there.
[18:54:33] <Won> * Government owned ... I'll bookmark it and let the others know about the potential resource, but I don't know if its worth going deeper into that avenue yet.
[18:55:55] <@Fats> * The governments of Chinese statelets aren't the kind of entities you don't want to cross paths with, generally speaking, and the node's low rating reflects this; but the decision is up to you, of course.
[18:57:09] <@Fats> Won zones in barely half a dozen minutes after he first engaged his VR module; the troupe is still on the parking lot near the Golden Pheasant, their vehicles now covered with a thin layer of snow.
[18:57:52] <Won> - His SIN info is in a Li Tianzi node. I'm thinking I'll investigate that some more after we have our meeting in Wonderland.
[18:58:07] * Won stepped out of his car to talk to inform his companions.
[18:59:27] <Che> - Ok. Let's get there before it's too late.
[18:59:44] <Nebokhod> - You could've used your commlink to convey this. Mind you, I appreciate the gesture, buuut...
[19:00:29] * Nebokhod returns to reading the newest issue of "Babes and Spells".
[19:00:45] <Won> - Russians don't have any concepts of the teachings of Taiichi do they.
[19:01:21] * Won gets in his car and prepares to head towards Wonderland.
[19:01:45] <Nebokhod> = We have teachings of "Bumper from Toyota".
[19:02:22] <Che> = Get in.
[19:02:55] <Nebokhod> * i was under impression, that i'm already in.
[19:03:01] <Won> * I'm in my own car
[19:04:28] * Che starts engine and plots course to Wonderland.
[19:04:48] <@Fats> Won, your Toyota acts up for a moment, unwilling to rev up in an atmosphere so cold. It takes several seconds of unpleasant mechanical noises until the engine finally starts, filling the car with its quiet purring.
[19:06:09] <@Fats> Che, the course is straightforward enough - down the eastern coast of the bay into Khasan, and deep into that hive of smugglers and pirates along the twisting streets built without central planning.
[19:06:45] <Won> = Disha, you should get the car something warm to help with that. You can put it on my card.
[19:06:56] * Won speaks to the driver of his car.
[19:07:35] <@Fats> * the driver is an AI as well, is he not?
[19:08:23] <Won> * Yes, also a she.
[19:09:31] <@Fats> * Do your AIs use visible AROs or holograms to project in realspace inside the Century, or are they purely digital constructs with no physical representation?
[19:10:47] <Won> * They use holograms, I bought a few projectors and projector-drones just for them.
[19:11:46] <@Fats> The hologram of the driver nods in agreement: the climate in "Seattle of the East" is surely much less welcoming than that in the actual Seattle!
[19:12:07] <@Fats> About half-way there, your road is blocked by a motorcade of army vehicles. Judging by the anchors on the insignia marking the vehicles, it's Naval Infantry, and judging by the number of vehicles driving past, it must be an entire division driving North. Things must be tough on the front in Awakened Yakut if Naval Infantry is to be deployed on a land theater.
[19:12:24] <Che> * https://media.giphy.com/media/ScYgj3tHq9wfC/giphy.gif - sorry.
[19:13:13] <@Fats> First infantry fighting vehicles and self-propelled artillery crawl past in clouds of choking black smoke, then there's a brief pause, and you can see trucks and other logistics vehicles coming up.
[19:13:35] <@Fats> * Want to rush past? Or will you stand and wait like law-abiding citizens?
[19:13:55] <Che> * Hey, I plotted course taking into account all the roadblocks and traffic!
[19:13:55] <Won> * ...You're supposed to wait for these things?
[19:15:01] <@Fats> Che, the army does not report the movement of its columns to the Gridguide system to avoid ambushes by subversive elements.
[19:15:15] <@Fats> Won, you are, if you're a little honest drone.
[19:16:20] <Nebokhod> * yandex.jams though.
[19:16:23] <Won> * >Honest >Drone. Those two words are incompatible. The only allegiance is to your paycheck.
[19:16:36] <Che> * Army, yes, but all the law abiding staying in traffic jams are.
[19:16:44] <Nebokhod> *or EVO.Jams
[19:17:09] <Che> You know, you can track road situation just by speed of some of the cars?
[19:18:25] <Che> **
[19:18:39] <Che> * Our current techlevel even allows it!
[19:18:44] <@Fats> * Sounds like something a subversive element would say.
[19:19:38] <Won> * You think cars are real? Wow.
[19:19:43] <@Fats> * Also, silly Won, you are to be utterly loyal to the corp: work 14 hours a day, never leave before your boss, sing the corp anthem in the morning. The paycheck is just a bonus, the real payment is the privilege of working for the corp!
[19:20:27] * Che tryes to find a better route.
[19:20:44] <Che> 9#sd Area Knowledge (Vladivostok)
[19:20:44] <ur_dnd_bot> Che: (pool 9) 2 hits
[19:21:51] <@Fats> Che, you believe if you drive on a parallel route in the opposite direction, you can circumvent the tail of the column, and avoid most of the waiting time.
[19:22:11] <Won> * Any of the people making the blockade around the Century?
[19:22:43] <Won> * If so, just gonna politely ask how to get through quickly.
[19:22:51] <Won> * While relying on looking important.
[19:23:07] <Che> = Screw it. Follow me.
[19:23:26] * Che tries to circumvent the tail.
[19:23:32] <Won> = Oh, you found a route. Wonderful.
[19:23:38] * Won follows
[19:26:14] <@Fats> More than enough other cars near you, Won - their drivers look at you two with badly concealed hatred as you switch to the opposite lane and drive away. A bit of wandering through the back streets, and you're speeding across the trail of the column, judging by the asphalt being ruined by the heavy vehicles' tracks. You're delayed barely half an hour instead of a full one; it's an uneventful drive to your destination after that.
[19:27:35] <Won> = Whats the rudest polite thing I can do to these drivers giving me angry looks?
[19:29:51] <@Fats> As you drive closer to Wonderland, the buildings look ever more dilapidated. The bar sits in some abandoned warehouse, and unlike your favorite Yakor, announces its presence with a neon sign so bright it's a glare even in fading daylight. Its large iron doors sit unevenly on their hinges, letting out loud talk, female squeaking, ork rock blasting, and clouds of steam that rapidly condenses on the rusty iron columns that support the warehouse roof.
[19:32:36] <Che> = I guess, no tea for me here.
[19:32:40] <@Fats> No bouncers in sight - apparently the owners think their patrons can handle any problems themselves.
[19:34:07] <Won> = Am I going to die if I go in there.
[19:35:45] <Nebokhod> = Well, it should be OK, for humans that is. Are you human?
[19:36:38] <Che> = We can leave you to watch over cars.
[19:37:46] <Won> = I'm insulted that you asked. Yes, I'm human.
[19:38:13] * Won steps out of the car wearing enough layers to obviously be from out of town.
[19:39:13] <Nebokhod> = Hell, you never know these days. Like, recently I met a tigress that turned into human.
[19:40:16] * Nebokhod steps out of a car.
[19:41:10] * Che checks his weapons then follows Nebokhod.
[19:41:46] <@Fats> The cold bites hard enough to herd you to the warmth of the bar, whatever awaits you there; and there's no one to check your weapons.
[19:41:55] <Nebokhod> * i cast detect life at F5.
[19:42:08] <@Fats> * still no one

[19:42:59] <@Fats> * what are you hoping to learn?
[19:43:04] <Che> = So, just going in and posting LF DPS sign?
[19:43:35] <Nebokhod> * how many of them there and if there something special about anyone..
[19:43:36] <Won> = We could start a fight and just watch him.
[19:46:18] <Nebokhod> = And if the boy will get killed we'll get no paycheck.
[19:46:42] <Che> = I don't really like this idea. Bar fights tend to become very chaotic and suck in all the bystanders.
[19:48:15] <Nebokhod> = Oh, for fuck's sake, come on in, before we freeze our balls off.
[19:48:24] <@Fats> The bar is, first of all, deafening, ork rock blaring its protest lyrics from two metahuman-sized speakers sitting on the concrete slab of the counter, barely visible in the smoke filling the room. The barman is an elf missing half his skull, replaced by a smooth plastic panel. He has an obvious SMG under his arm as he glances up to greet the runners. There are about three dozen other patrons: a bunch of trolls cluster in one corner, wearing
[19:48:25] <@Fats> obvious gang colours. They're drinking something from several five liter plastic bottles sitting on a concrete slab between them. Every once in a while one troll or another proceeds to kick a bloodied ork sprawling at their feet.
[19:48:50] <Won> = Lets just get the table next to him and eavesdrop for a while until we figure this out.
[19:50:11] <Nebokhod> * do i detect any large lifeforms that i do not see in optical spectre?
[19:50:34] <@Fats> Across the room, several colourful characters you'd place as smugglers sit in a circle on what used to be traffic barriers. They are mostly Asians, of assorted gender and metatype, and have several bottles of equally assorted Asian hooch between them.
[19:51:19] <@Fats> Nebokhod, one of them is an adept, and another a mage; that one has a spirit shaped like a murderoud mermaid floating above his shoulder in the Astral.
[19:51:47] <Nebokhod> * MURMAIDER
[19:52:09] <Nebokhod> * i dismiss the spell.
[19:52:45] <@Fats> The rest of the patrons are assorted runners drinking whatever is served at the bar: some sit at the bar, others at more debris used for seats, and several metahuman figures further out in the corners are obviously out: either drunk or dead, no one cares.
[19:53:51] <@Fats> Nebokhod, before you do, you see that of the six prostate and leaning figures in the corners four are alive; the ork that the trolls are having fun with is also alive yet.
[19:54:28] <Nebokhod> * do we know the ork?
[19:54:43] <@Fats> * Logic+Intuition, if you please
[19:55:15] <Nebokhod> 11#sd
[19:55:15] <ur_dnd_bot> Nebokhod: (pool 11) 3 hits
[19:56:11] <@Fats> The elf at the counter screeches at you, easily overpowering the overwhelming volume of the ork rock: "Drinking anything eh?" His voice has an artificial tinge to it, and he doesn't move the remaining half of his mouth, leading you to suggest his voice is synthesized somewhere below his neck, under his worn denim coat.
[19:57:09] <@Fats> Nebokhod, with his face all bruised and broken, you don't recognize the ork
[19:57:39] <Nebokhod> - WHAT DO YOU HAVE?
[19:59:08] * Won works on securing a table within eavesdropping distance of Reaper.
[19:59:39] <Che> * Is Reaper already here?
[19:59:56] <@Fats> The barman produces a 1 liter plastic bottle, some deep-coloured liquid the color of machine oil swishing at the bottom, and shakes it: "All the bess stuff" - he replies, - "Moonshy', hurlg, murlg!"
[20:00:09] <Che> * I was under impression it's still a few hours before he'll get here.
[20:00:10] <Won> * Oh, crumbs. I jumped the gun on that. Sorry.
[20:00:32] * Che sighs.
[20:00:33] <@Fats> Won, Che, as far as you can see, the guy hasn't yet arrived.
[20:01:04] <Nebokhod> - All from the same barrell, eh?
[20:01:24] * Won just orders a vodka soda
[20:01:29] <Che> - Let's hope it's not the barrel that WC flushes in.
[20:02:09] <Nebokhod> - Wouldn't count that out in your place.
[20:02:32] <Nebokhod> - We'll take moonshine.
[20:03:40] <@Fats> - Course not, we add spec'l ingridiens! - the elf replies as he pours Won a cup (a cup that used to be another plastic bottle, apparently an Atzlan Sunrise Cola with its upper half cut off) of his closest approximation of the order. It is clear, and it is carbonated. It also smacks of ethanol and gasoline.
[20:04:21] <@Fats> He turns to Nebokhod: "Two liters? Five? A disscount for bulk orders" - he grins with the good half of his mouth.
[20:06:01] <Nebokhod> - Let's say two for a start. Do you have any food here?
[20:08:10] <@Fats> The barman hands you a bottle of moonshine. This one used to be Saint Spring clear drinking water - now the moonshine in it is the colour of nicotine, and tastes roughly the same, with a strong aftertaste of adhesive tape.
[20:08:53] * Che thinks that recent chinese food will keep him going for some time and orders some dandelion wine.
[20:09:32] <@Fats> - Fo'sho, - the elf replies to Nebokhod, as he points to a barrel labeled "Nikifirovna's Wonder Krill" near the counter.
[20:10:31] * Nebokhod looks in the barrell.
[20:11:29] <@Fats> Nebokhod, it's a tin barrel with a tap on top. The writing seems factory-embossed, and below it is a smiling face of a generic peasant grandma.
[20:12:22] <@Fats> Che, the contents of the cup you receive resemble dandelions only in their vague rubber-ish taste; and wine only in containing ethanol.
[20:12:37] <Won> Does this place have any sort of automated vacuum bots on the ground or similar?
[20:12:53] <Nebokhod> - Eh, fuck that noise.
[20:13:06] * Nebokhod rejoins his comrades.
[20:14:02] <Won> * I wanna send one of my drones around to pick up random local chatter but I don't want it to obviously be a drone doing that.
[20:14:04] <Che> - I should thank gods more for the fact, that I can frequent Mikhalych's and not establishments like that.
[20:14:30] <@Fats> Won, judging by the state of the floors, by your estimation this place was last vacuumed before the Eurowars. The only nodes you can detect around you are a commlink that's connected to the speakers, and the personal commlinks of the barman and the patrons.
[20:15:17] <Won> ....I'll just have the crawler diguise itself as a plastic bag and other similar garbage then.
[20:15:36] <Che> = I wonder, how out of place we look here...
[20:15:54] * Won sets his disguised crawler out to go pick up any interesting information from the crowd, especially anything relating to Reaper or his habits.
[20:16:54] <Won> * Its just walking around randomly with its mic funelled to his sub-voc.
[20:20:17] <@Fats> Won, the disguise seems to work perfectly: none of the patrons pay any heed to a bit of garbage rolling around. In half an hour, you've had a rare opportunity to listen to blaring ork rock from two positions simultaneously, with a split-second delay, as well as to glean some pearls of wisdom from the locals that mostly concern the cops keeping the honest men down, the details of a gang drug deal next week, the number of girls a certain troll
[20:20:17] <@Fats> prefers at a time when he can afford them, the systematic oppression of the SURGEd in a post-Comet society, but precious little on your friend Reaper.
[20:21:49] <Che> = Let's speak some fancy bussiness.
[20:21:58] * Won calls the drone back then checks to see if the phone numbers are the same as the ones of the girls from the chinese resteraunt just to fill the time and sate the curiousity.
[20:22:24] <Won> = What, like out loud?
[20:22:35] <Che> = Not so loud.
[20:23:19] <Che> - Are you sure they won't find us here?
[20:24:07] <@Fats> The closest you find to a free table is a slab of concrete that used to be an anti-terrorist barrier at some bus stop, equidistant from both the troll gangers and the smugglers, and far enough from the rest of the patrons not to disturb them when you sit.
[20:24:35] <Nebokhod> - Well, eventually they'll find us, if we'll settle down here like those bois in the corners.
[20:24:46] <Won> - I really doubt this place is worth their time.
[20:25:08] <@Fats> Nebokhod, you see the smuggler adept stand up from the group, leaning heavily on what looks like a crutch, and sit aside from his compatriots.
[20:25:21] <@Fats> * A visual perception check if you will

[20:26:21] <@Fats> The crutch appears to have a rifle butt at its top end.
[20:26:58] <Che> - Let's hope it'll take some time at least.
[20:27:18] <Nebokhod> - Eh, will be long gone by then.
[20:27:23] <Nebokhod> *we'll
[20:27:26] <@Fats> * anything solid you plan to do other than trying to belong?
[20:28:04] <Che> * just drop a few hints that we are looking for muscle to replace our recent losses, I guess.
[20:28:20] * Nebokhod puts a can of meat before each of his team mates.
[20:28:33] <Nebokhod> - Don't drink on empty stomach.
[20:28:37] <Won> = ...Did you bring this from home.
[20:28:56] * Nebokhod opens his can and eats with gusto.
[20:29:04] <@Fats> * btw, do you drink what you ordered? :3
[20:29:06] <Nebokhod> = Yup.
[20:29:17] <Nebokhod> * pretend to.
[20:29:25] <Che> * a little
[20:29:29] <Won> * Took a few sips
[20:29:52] * Che thankfully nods to Nebokhod.
[20:29:58] * Won stares at it, and then eats some. Its probably no worse than vending machine food.
[20:30:26] <Nebokhod> * it's a real meat.
[20:31:17] <@Fats> Won, from the first gulp, the carbonated drink feels as if someone hit you with a hammer on the back of your head. You see black circles dance before your eyes, fractally multiplying.
[20:31:35] <@Fats> * Body x 2, please, Won

[20:32:19] <Won> * Does it even taste like cola? Or does it taste like I just literally drank jet fuel?
[20:34:17] <@Fats> It tastes like you drank crappy ethanol that was brewed in a can that used to store gasoline. You feel an overwhelming calling to retch it all out.
[20:35:25] * Won excuse himself to the bathroom, with his drink in hand.
[20:38:43] <@Fats> Won, you notice that the ork lying at the trolls' feet has stopped trying to cover his head, so the gangers' kicks produce no visible reaction from his broken form. You rush past the group into the local loo, which is a small room with head-sized holes in its concrete floor. It's about as clean as the rest of the establishment, and the walls can be used as a yellow book for the local junkie whores and cut counterfeit drug dealers.
[20:39:34] * Won just ignores that and makes a watercolor painting.
[20:40:59] <@Fats> Won, you feel instant relief, but you're still seeing double, and black shapes dance in the corners of your vision.
[20:41:34] <@Fats> * You're disorientated, -2 to all tests for the next ten minutes.
[20:41:40] <Won> Drinks getting dumped down the toilet and replaced with whats hopefully clear water
[20:41:58] <@Fats> * do you have clear water on your person?
[20:41:58] * Won returns to the table after washing up
[20:42:05] <Che> - Are you ok?
[20:42:08] <Won> * Nope. Just using the faucet.
[20:42:53] <@Fats> * Oh, you like risk I see.
[20:43:30] <Won> - It was too powerful for me.
[20:43:38] * Won consumes meat
[20:44:20] <@Fats> Won, the treat is as grand as they come, seeing how hard it is to find actual meat outside of high-grade corporate settings. You've missed the taste.
[20:45:09] <Won> - Who's your meat guy?
[20:45:32] <Nebokhod> - Red Army.
[20:45:55] * Won nods
[20:47:13] <Che> - Try not to angry them, or you'll end in one of those cans.
[20:48:27] <Nebokhod> - Son, are you Yakut?
[20:49:18] <@Fats> Interrupting the runners' enlightening talk, several figures enter the establishment. Four of them are orks, three males and one female. Accompanying them are another female, this one human, and a squat dwarf. Their clothing is uniform, a green skull grinning from a patch on the left arm of their leather jackets. Without ado, the dwarf hurls a molotov cocktail into the midst of the troll gang, turning one of the trogs into a running, wailing
[20:49:18] <@Fats> living torch. His compatriots open fire on the remaining trolls, who regroup behind what served as their table and answer in kind.
[20:49:49] <Che> - Nope, I'm honorary buryat.
[20:50:04] <@Fats> * do you want to participate? Roll init. If not, what do you do? Your concrete table would provide reliable enough cover - using theirs is what the other patrons are doing.
[20:50:29] <Nebokhod> - Do we know the skull dudes?
[20:50:33] <Nebokhod> **
[20:50:48] <@Fats> * Any Local Knowledge on you?
[20:50:55] * Che ducks behind table and pulls out his gun just in case.
[20:51:04] <Nebokhod> * buryat had some
[20:51:29] <Che> 10#sd underworld (local)
[20:51:29] <ur_dnd_bot> Che: (pool 10) 3 hits
[20:51:58] <Che> * bot likes us today, you were telling?
[20:52:56] <@Fats> Those are the Chemists, a small gang from the docks who controls some of the synthetic drug trade. You've barely heard any mentions of them, they're small-time.
[20:53:39] * Won heads outside for a smoke
[20:53:40] * Nebokhod hides behind the table and enjoys the show.
[20:53:53] <Che> - Drekkin' drugsters.
[20:54:13] <@Fats> * okay, it's time for me to leave, so it appears we're leaving this a cliffhanger. Two karma, everyone; shame we couldn't move it much further.
